You don’t have to hold onto the fountain of youth forever. And aging gracefully is certainly a thing. Age is just a number. But with all these tropes, one thing remains true: no one wants to look older (much, much older) than they really are.
But don’t worry — if you think that’s you, we’re here to help. These are the six habits that make you look older than you are (and how to stop them, below.)
These Are Making You Look Older
1. Baking In The Sun
Say it with me: I will put SPF on every day. But if you’re spending all day, every day in the sun, the chances of premature aging are extremely high. On top of that, if you’re tanning with spray tans or at-home options, this can also make you appear older.
Instead, embrace your natural tone. You’ll thank us later.
2. Constantly Saying You’re Old
I was on TikTok recently and saw several women commenting about their age. I’m SO old. They were only in their 30s. It turns out, that the mindset you have about age can actually age you further. If you’re constantly remarking that you’re an old woman now, or you tell yourself you can’t compete with the younger generation, of course, you’re going to look and feel that way.
And hey, I have some news for you: if you’re on TikTok, you’re not old. No matter what age you are.
3. You Skip The Gym Often
Being active is one of the most important things you can do for yourself. Regular exercise boosts your circulation — which has a lot to do with your hair health, skin health and your nutrition absorption rate.
4. Caking on The Makeup
Ladies, gents and they/thems — skip the heavy makeup. It can accentuate your fine lines, make your eyes appear smaller and create shadows that make you appear older than you are.
5. Constantly Looking At Your Phone
Let’s face it: we’re all attached to our phones. And we’re all constantly looking down at them. But this can create premature fine lines in your neck, loss of firmness in your neck and reduced blood circulation. Remember to put the phone down once in a while and focus on improving your posture.
6. Eating These Unhealthy Foods
As someone who practices intuitive eating, I believe in moderation. That means that when I want ice cream, I have ice cream. As long as I am eating a well-rounded diet, I can indulge every once in a while. Moderation is key.
However, if you’re eating these unhealthy foods consistently, you’re not only damaging your body over but making yourself appear older.
