TikTok’s Viral Pink Sauce Explained

How it Started

The Pink Sauce craze started in the Summer of 2022 when Veronica Shaw, aka Chef Pii, debuted her concoction on TikTok:

This sauce, which consists of dragon fruit, honey, sunflower seed oil, chili and garlic, has been completely overhauled and rebranded. At the start of its launch, ingredients also included Himalayan sea salt, lemon juice, milk and citric acid. ds.

The video exploded in popularity, immediately attracting all sorts of intrigue and flack. The intrigue came because, well, obviously, what is this sauce? And the flack came from the other obvious question: why would anyone want a sauce that looks like Pepto Bismol?

Nevertheless, Shaw persisted. She launched an online shop to sell her sauce, and the orders poured in. She had been making Pink Sauce for clients as a personal chef for over a year, long before it went viral, but now it was time to scale.

What’s in Pink Sauce

The sauce consists of dragon fruit, honey, sunflower seed oil, chili, and garlic. It has been completely overhauled and rebranded since the original video.

Many say that the taste slightly resembles Ranch dressing.

Why the Flack?

Once Pink Sauce went viral, the critics poured in. TikTok commenters, responders, and customers were quick to criticize.

Buyers were peeved for a few reasons. Shipments took a long time to arrive, and when the bottles came, they were often damaged. Packaging errors included misspelled words on the label. Customers also nitpicked the product’s color, claiming that the sauce was lighter than it appeared in the videos.

Some claimed that the sauce smelled rotten. In the original version, the ingredients included milk, which needs refrigeration. Naturally, customers were concerned.

Where’s Pink Sauce Now?

Despite a significant learning curve, Shaw stuck with her product and prevailed. She approached the issues seriously and re-engineered her product and process. Shaw recently partnered with Dave’s Gourmet, a more established food company, to manufacture and distribute Pink Sauce.
